The first time I went to a gym the kind owner (thanks Kieth) showed me round and we did a set on every piece of kit in the gym. I left feeling weak, trembling and extremely nauseous; Keith on the other hand wasn’t even sweating. Two days later my whole body was in agony and I didn’t set foot in a gym again for six years. So what changed, well I gave up smoking and put on five stone and became really unwell. At first I dieted and lost three stone and then my weight plateaued so I started swimming and lost another stone. When things plateaued again I started weight training at home and it wasn’t long before someone noticed the changes in my body composition (thanks Martin) and invited me back to the gym I’d walked out of six years ago. This time, with the direction support and encouragement of a responsible and knowledgeable training partner, I went on to enjoy many years of healthy bodybuilding. I have never been able to just look at something without wanting to know what it does and how it works and weight training was no exception, the more I learned and practised the more fascinated I became. Eventually I went to college and formalised my training and, I have to say, I thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it. Today I offer a personal fitness training and sports therapy service that helps a wide range of clients of all ages, from those who want to look better to those who need to get better, as for nausea or soreness? Well it’s optional.
